I’ve seen this over and over… in my own life as much as others. Here’s what happens.
The big sins are easily identified. Those with a history rightfully rejoice when forgiven and set free. Those who never struggled in those areas rightfully rejoice for the grace they’ve been given to avoid those mistakes.
But have you ever seen someone rescued from the depths of sin, who then becomes critical and judgmental of others? Or someone who hasn’t struggled with a particular sin but is very condemning of anyone else who struggles?
Why?
Because hypocrisy begins when repentance ends. Repentance is more than just admitting wrong. It literally means changing your mind or turning around to head in another direction.
When you turn from the “big” sins, it’s easy to think you’re done. Same if you are just a pretty good person who doesn’t have a laundry list sinful past.
