Survey says… no matter who wins this election we’ve lost so much already.
We’ve lost common decency and respect for other people, also created in the image of God.
We’ve lost the ability to civilly discuss policy, facts, and statistics without calling anything contradicting our side’s narrative fraud, fascism, communism, or evil.
We sound and act like spoiled children bickering, name-calling, and throwing temper tantrums. It wasn’t always this way.
These words engraved on the Statue of Liberty don’t even sound like America anymore:
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
We’re losing that America.
These words from the Savior who shed His blood for all while we were yet sinners, don’t even sound like Christianity anymore:
Matthew 25:41-45 (NLT)
“Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’
“Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’
“And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’”
We’re losing that Christianity.
While it would be easy to blame corrupt politicians and billionaires, social activists, false doctrines, and “profits” of doom or prosperity, the truth is, I can’t change any of that.
I have endeavored personally and publicly to shine a different light by focusing on what Jesus said to focus on. Making disciples by teaching them to follow all the things He commanded. The few times I have spoken out against bigotry, lies, racism, and toxic “Christian” politics it’s been mostly crickets or condemnation from other Christians.
Now that this election season is winding down, part of me wants to shut up and take it easy. But I can’t. Too much is at stake. This isn’t about politics for me. It’s about Jesus and I will not be silent while hatred, pride, selfishness, cruelty, and immorality are accepted, modeled, and followed in the name of Biblical values.
That’s a lie straight from the pit of hell. Too many are deceived and too many are holding their nose in silence.
Who’s willing to stand up for Jesus without compromise? No matter your politics. I’m certainly no shining example of that at times, but hiding the light under a bushel is just as sinful as living in darkness.
Father, forgive me for compromise. Forgive me for not defending the least of these with the same vigor that they are being vilified by those calling themselves Christian.
Forgive me for not calling out false teachers as the hypocrites, vipers, and white-washed tombs they are.
Forgive me for worrying more about what people think - more than what Jesus said to focus on and to do.
The little I have done publicly in that direction has come at a cost - both personally and financially. People who were like family no longer even speak to me.
Sure, it would be more profitable and popular to play it safe. But I have one, Jesus-inspired word for that.
No.
If you have a voice, use it to proclaim the Good News of Jesus, not the propaganda of politics. If that’s not your thing, support, and share content that exalts Jesus, not earthly, false messiah heroes.
